It seem like that had been the question everywhere for the first part of June. Up on the Forks and over on the Blackfoot. Some folks said they had been fishing them and they were over? It was a little strange. You would see a few, and maybe some cases on the bank. But nothing really looking up for them. I think the deal was just the clarity was there and the temps just were not. Well, not enough to really crank up the hatch. This hasn’t been the early June we’ve had the last few years. It’s been cooler and wetter. Anyway it’s on now. Both the West fork and the Blackfoot have the big bugs out, and the fish looking up!
The Main stem of the Root is also fishing. It started mostly subsurface last week and has transitioned to some solid topwater in the last couple days. The Clark Fork has also shaped up and has had a lot less pressure than the Blackfoot. While it is still mostly subsurface.
The weather on tap is warm and dry for the next week and we will probable see the best fishing of the season in the near future. Drakes, Pmd’s, caddis, and yellow sallies all on tap.
be careful though. There are plenty of new trees down. Stay Safe.
