Montana Fly Fishing

braided_stream_boat_fish-dark_1600x420Well the warm weather was nice for the last week. The fishing was really good. But somewhat spotty. Meaning mid day around 1:30 when the bugs came off it was as good as it gets. You didn’t need to see any fish rise. Just a little faith. Drakes, March Browns and yes Skwalas. With a mix of midges, that at times the fish were keyed in on. Don’t forget the griffiths. Really big bumps in all the flows have moved the fish back in some of the side channels. The off color water makes it a little more difficult, but it can still be done. Maybe a little more sub stuff.
Is this the end of clear water until mid-June, probably not. It’s going to be cool the next few days which should help. But you never know? The bottom line is you take what you get and make the best of it. No sense in worrying.
