We’re about where we should be considering the snowpack for the year. In essence there has been 2 runoff’s. Things had shaped up and looked good about 2 weeks ago. Then the rain/monsoon came and postponed things. So depending on the stretch you pick things can be great or still about a week away.
Spot’s that have arrived:
1 The West Fork Root. Has been fishing for a couple weeks. Salmonflies are done. Small goldens and mayflies are the ticket with a dropper will keep you bent all day.
2 Upper Bitterroot from Tucker down. Still high, but the fish have decided enough is enough and its time to go ahead and eat. Dry /dropper’s PMD’s, Purple haze behind a chubby.
3 Blackfoot has finally greened back up for the second time. Still primarily a subsurface game but that will change more this week. Slop rig’s, stones, hot spot jigs. CROWDED!!
Halfway there:
Lower Root can be a crap shoot. Still running pretty hard and you can get it handed to you even though there is bugs everywhere. or if things fall into place you can find SOME quality fish.
Clark Fork just started fishing, but count on prospecting with a nymph rig. Hope to see em looking up.
It’s amazing what can change in a year.. Last year smoke and fires. This year so far rain and cooler sunny days. This looks like an outstanding SUMMER!
